Garden Healing for the Kim Walters Choices Program
Women who have been diagnosed with breast or gynaecological cancers need access to support and information to help them, their family and friends through what can be an extremely difficult time. A program that is unique to Australia does just this. The Kim Walters Choices Program is a community based program that offers free support to women who have been diagnosed with these forms of cancer. 1 in 8 Australian women are affected by breast cancer and the Wesley Hospital offers these women and those close to them a friendly relaxed environment to seek out the help they need.
Beautiful gardens for healing
Gardens have been used for many centuries to aid in the healing process. It has been shown that gardens offer great healing benefits. With an approach towards healing the mind, body and spirit research has shown that being able to spend time in natural elements and scenery stress is relieved as feelings of positivity are experienced. It is proven that when viewing garden scenery rather than concrete or urban scenes people are more relaxed. These benefits can be wonderful where cancer patients are concerned. By being able to spend time in relaxed surroundings they may experience less psychological trauma and even pain. Gardens provide a beautiful setting in which to spend time alone or with loved ones in this difficult time.
Contributing to the cause
Mark Perriman Landscapes are very proud to get on board with this very worthwhile cause. When the Kim Walters Choices Program moved to The Wesley Hospital in 2010 they slowly brought the indoor look and feel to a level where a patient would be more comfortable, however the outside area was a combination of rubble and dirt. Mark Perriman and the landscaping team worked with others to transform the dark and dingy outside space into a tranquil haven that patients and loved ones can now use to find solace, rest and relaxation. The Brisbane landscape design project will include a water feature, shaded area, seating and lighting throughout to create ambience. Mark Perriman believes that such a wonderful program to help those affected in the community by breast and gynaecological cancers is a truly worthy cause to contribute to and a great way to give back to the community.
The team at Mark Perriman will offer their Brisbane garden design expertise in the hope to create better healing facilities for patients. If you wish to find out more or have your own tranquil haven created give them a call today.
